Jingle bells, jingle bells...

We found out that our Egyptian neighbor is actually one of the chiefs of the Egyptian MILITARY for the ENTIRE Middle East, and they've put him in the safest Middle Eastern place they could think of- an embassy-filled neighborhood in Tunis. In a strange way, it actually makes me feel a lot safer.

We also found out that they're the caretakers of this whiny sheep until Egyptian Independence Day (Oct. 5th), when they'll slaughter it and have a big party at the Egyptian Embassy. Our landlady went over to their place to complain about the noise, and they invited us along with Cherifa and her family to the embassy shindig. Assuming we go, that first bite of lamb is going to be incredibly vindicating.

There's also a new funny noise coming from next door- Jingle bells. One of the guys living there has made it his ringtone, presumably oblivious to how absurd and potentially blasphemous it is for him. It's also just an annoying ringtone.

Here are some new pictures for you- I actually haven't taken very many yet, partially because I haven't been many places and partially because there's sort of a different picture-taking culture here...

These are from a trip to La Marsa, a suburb of Tunis. I'm going to get my act together with my picture website soon.

A very patriotic school

Palm trees on the main drag

A camel hanging out on the beach, chowing down on a bush. No owner in sight...

The camel says "HRRRMMM?"
